Lockdown Effects: The ICEA (Indian Cellular and Electronics Association) has expressed fears that more than 40 million users may be denied mobile phones by the end of May if the government further increases the lockdown

Let us tell you that in the second phase of the lockdown, from April 20, the government announced to relax the sale of goods on the e-commerce website, which was later withdrawn.

The government while revising the order said that till May 3, e-commerce companies can only sell essential items.

After this, ICEA issued a statement on Friday saying that 40 million users could become mobile less by the end of May if the government does not include smartphones and its parts in essential items in the lockdown.

According to ICEA, mobile phones of more than 25 million users are not working in the country at this time. The reason for this is the availability of components. The supply chain providing components of mobile devices has been broken due to coronavirus infection.

Because of which 25 million users have found mobile devices useless. If the lockdown is further extended, by the end of May, 40 million users of mobile devices may become unusable due to non-availability of components.

Central government lessens some restrictions:

In the fifth week of lockdown, the central government has relaxed the sale of only essential commodities. ICEA said that the government has included telecom, internet, broadcast and IT services in the list of essential commodities, but has not included the mobile devices required to use these services.

According to ICEA, a membership organization of leading smartphone maker companies, 25 million new mobile phones are sold in India every month. Currently, there are more than 85 million active mobile devices in India.

ICEA cited this data as saying that in the last one month, 25 million users are using old mobile phones due to the unavailability of new smartphones. ICEA Chairman Pankaj Mohindru said, "We have written a letter to the government warning that 40 million users may be affected by the end of May because mobile phones are not included in essential services."

The AarogyaSetu app launched by the government has been made mandatory by many district administrations. If users do not have a mobile phone, then how will they be able to install this app. This will be challenging especially for those users who do not have smartphones and want to buy a new one.
